Students: Embed a Video

You can link to a video in forum post, an online text assignment or in a wiki text box. In most cases, the video player will display directly in Moodle.
1. Get Your Link
Begin by opening a tab in your browser and going to YouTube or other video host site. Open the clip that you want to post. Click on Share, then copy the link's address. To share a video saved to your Google drive, set the share settings so that anyone with the link can view, then copy the resulting URL.
2. Open a Text Box in Moodle
In a forum—Click on Add a new discussion or Reply to open a text box. Click on the link labeled Use advanced editor in the lower right corner of the screen to bring up the HTML editor shown in #1 at the right.
In an assignment—Click on Add submission to open the text box.
3. Prepare to Insert Link in Moodle
Enter any text that you wish to accompany the video link. Type "video clip" (or the name of the video—if the video player is displayed after you save the text box, this text won't show after you link to it). Select the text you just entered and click on the Insert/edit link icon in the editing toolbar.
4. Insert Link
In the Insert/edit link dialogue box, paste the video's URL in the field labeled Link URL using Crtl+V. Optional step: Open the Target pull-down menu and choose Open in new window (_blank) to show the video in a new window.
Click on Update to display the linked text as a web link (highlighted and underlined) in your text box.
5. Save Changes
Post your forum response or click on Save changes to submit your assignment or save your wiki page.
6. View Your Clip
Reopen the page, post or assignment submission to view and play the video.
If the video player is not displayed for a YouTube video after you save your link, this article will help you troubleshoot the problem.
