(iOS) How to connect to remotedesktop.sou.edu or virtuallab.sou.edu from iOS

SOU offers remote access to a full Windows desktop using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Services.  This service is available on any device that supports an RDP (Remote Desktop Prototcol) client, including Windows, Macintosh, Linux, iOS, and Android.

To begin using remotedesktop.sou.edu or virtuallab.sou.edu on iOS, you will need to install an App that supports RDP.  We recommend Wyse PocketCloud, but Jump Desktop is another good option.  Note, only PocketCloud offers a free limited version.  This article will show screenshots from PocketCloud.

Start the PocketCloud app and you should see the screen below.

iOS Start

Tap Advanced Users to begin.  This action will take you to the Add connection screen.

iOS Add Connection

Tap the + button and you should see the Connection Type screen as shown below.

iOS Connection Type

Choose Manual Connection and you will be brought to the next screen, Connection Method.

iOS Connection Method

The connection method is RDP, so tap RDP on the screen.  This will bring you to the next settings screen.

iOS RDP Settings

On this screen, type in remotedesktop.sou.edu or virtuallab.sou.edu into both the Nickname and Host address fields.  Enter your SOU username in the Username field, your password in the Password field, and enter SOU in the Domain field.  Do not change the Port or enable Console mode, as these options will not allow you to connect.  Click Done in the upper left.  You will be taken back to the home screen as shown below.
