Authors list

This article will show you how to look up which version of Windows 10 is currently on your computer. Your Computing Coordinator may ask you for this information to assist you with troubleshooting. It is otherwise not important for you to know it.

Step 1 - Open a Run dialog

The easiest way to open the run dialog is by using the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + R.

You can also easily launch the Run dialog by right-clicking your Start Menu icon. Select Run from the menu that appears.

Step 2 - Enter the "winver" command into the Run dialog

Enter "winver" without the quotes into the text field, then press Enter or click the OK button.

Step 3 - Note the version number of your OS

The About Windows window should appear after you enter the winver command. Make sure that it says Windows 10 along the top, then look for the version number beneath where it says Microsoft Windows. This is the version number that the IT Department needs.
